Nobody's unfamiliar with it. Surf your TV set or flip through your newspaper and the monotonous-by-familiarity lines greet you- "Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricket star Shoaib Malik (the media is certainly generous with their adjectives)and the LSD-Love Sex aur Dhoka!" or "Move over Tiger Woods. We got our own desi spice." Yeah, the controversy brewing all around.

The debate has now invaded our homes, friend circle and even inspired status updates, some as distasteful as "Couldn't Sania Mirza find anything better than a Paki?" No man, just not cool. Anyway, the point is this- how does it matter? And why is the media so obsessed with marriages? Lets discuss these two primes in detail now.

That Sania Mirza has taken Indian women tennis to a greater notch is indisputable. It's worth praising that in spite of being a woman, and a Muslim woman that too (not meant to sound sexist but that Indian, more of all, Muslim women sadly face unprecedented difficulties is not a veiled fact), she's been audaciously persistent to reach the pedestal she can boast of being a role model is certainly an applause worthy feat. Of course she has a lot more to do but still her efforts are worth praising. It was till now this sportsmanship she was being lime-lighted for. Then came her sudden media confession of an intended marriage. To Shoaib Malik, of all the people.

Indo Pak relations are not what they can boast of being all hunky dory. The external influences are not helping either in even laying foundation of any ties whatsoever (Yes, I am talking of the Fak-Ap Af-Pak policy) with an un-obvious viewfinder aimed at India's ruin). Shoaib Malik, a once successful cricketer is now ruing his sacking from team on grounds of "causing infighting in the team". Of course, that has nothing to do with his personal stance. But preliminary introductions aside, his bachelor status has itself come under severe scurtiny the moment his marriage plans were announced.

To sum it up in brief- A non-entity from Hyderabad emerged to shout out loud that Shoaib is married and of all the people to her. An immediate legal case was filed against him. What followed was a curiously amusing interview with Shoaib Malik in which it emerged that either he's a complete douchebag or feigning the innocence of a teenager in his early emotionally volatile stages. While admitting that the Hyderabad-wali Ayesha Siddiqui was not exactly a stranger to him, he said that their courtship began in 2002 when she posed as his fan. The relations grew intimate in its own cute electromagnetic way till the point that they decided to get hitched. Now, Ayesha had sent Shoaib her pictures through mail and our naive Shoaib believed her. When he sought to meet, she kept making excuses and under the pretext of going abroad on urgent visits whenever he was in town, she met him in the guise of her elder sister. In spite of all this, he got hooked with her over a telephone nikah.

One comes to a simple conclusion after being presented his side of argument. Either he's lying, or he's a retard. Let's look at it from a layman's perspective. It is a common known fact that men are horny and when it comes to sportsmen, they are necessarily aggressive- which is not a bad thing as it helps them on the field too. So what does it make you think? In the five years that the courtship lasted, did he not have any needs? He was not just a famous player but also subsequently elected as a captain of the team. He had fame, fortune, skill and money- a rare combination and a sure shot equation to lure any double X chromosome-d specie. Best example- look at Tiger Woods. It just doesn't add up that he's not guilty of even infidelity, making his character all the more suspicious.

Even if we ignore this typically washroom analogy, how can anyone be so ridiculous as to not wanting to see his own bride even at his wedding? The courtship lasted for five years and still there was never a string of doubt in the mind as to the real identity? Hoax mails are a norm as far the the celebs are concerned and so didn't a doubt pass his mind when she kept making excuses so as to not meet him?

Now let us dismiss his analysis and look at the flipside- the undue angst triggered by the world media concentration on this debate (that's right. Not just BBC, even other world media channels are covering this tripe), victimizing Sania Mirza. Though she's maintained a trademark "We know the inside info and we're okay with it", certainly, its no pretty activity to wake up and crunch your marie while reading unpalatable news about prospective groom's disdain. No, certainly unwarranted for a role-model, an inspirational entity.

Next comes the ever popular question about media ethics that can also be rejuvenated and formulated into a new section titled "This is the 56,832th article on the questionable media focal point". Why is the media getting so intrusive and extensive on the coverage of an undesirable news element? One can point out many instances- Adnan Sami and Sabah controversy, the corny-ass Abhi-Aish coverage. And this is not limited to India- an eaten, chewed out, ruminated and even pooped out news item of Jeniffer Aniston, Angelina jolie and Brad Pitt is relentlessly recycled and ridiculously given reams of print after every few months with sneaky headlines spitting out "Bodyguard reveals Brad's secret meetings with Aniston". Of course, TRP hungry smart-ass producers take no time in judging this trend, hiring people ever-ready to make fool of themselves and weave up brain dead reality shows- "Rakhi ka Swayamwar" or "Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayega", whose even names are enough to crop up goosebumps of embarrassment.

Honestly guys, get a life and stop intruding in others. It's not funny, not witty and plainly not worth it.

I didnt know this was even an issue until someone told me about it on the CB... anyway... heres something I wanted to ask...

How many people know that in 3 days time (less than that actually)... the ISRO will be launching a rocket that will have an upper stage powered by an indigenously built cryogenic engine?

If the launch is successful will join a elite club of only 6 countries (including India) having the capability to produce such engines. That there is NEWS.... this Sania-Shohaib business is CRAP... something I have already discussed in "The Glut of crappy "News" Channels" thread...
