Vivek vs Vadivel

this is exclusively for tamil movie fans and anybody who's ever seen one. to anyone else, this could well be as good as gibberish.




tamil movie industry's most brilliant comedians, Vadivel and Vivek; without them, a movie is like dosa without sambar. the jokes they crack send multitudes of "tamil makkal" roaring with laughter and makes movies more enjoyable. though they are incomparable to the legendary Goundamani and Senthil duo, both Vadivel and Vivek have made thier marks.

this guy goes for slapstic comedy but with a finer touch. his jokes often include qiotes of great men, misspelt english words and tamil poetry... half of which he makes up and they are prettygood(IMO). he was probably the reason why the move SIVAJI: THE BOSS was so successful at the box office.

this guy's been in tamil cinema for a far more time than Vivek. he started his career doing side roles in Goundamani-Senthil jokes. his break was the Prabhu Deva movie KADHALAN with the song "pettai rap". his jokes are very crude and often vulgar(a lot more vulgar than Vivek's) as he usually portryas a simpleton, illiterate villager in most of the movies.

nah! language has got nothing to do with it.
i understand a little tamil and i like tamil comedy. it's... unique. very slapstick yet it's got that good feel which you can't get from anywhere. it's fast paced and all if you don't listen proper, you don't get the joke. at least i don't.

i voted for Vivek too. he's my favorite. i like his poetry/parody though i don't get it half the time.

The most positive aspect of Tamil Cinema is its Comedy! I'm a big fan and I often watch Adithya(the 24 hour tamil channel dedicated to nothing but cine comedy) on T.V.

If this poll was held more than a year ago then without a doubt my vote would've gone to Vivek. The way he challenges irrational beliefs and puts them in a comic light was ingenious! But lately not every joke was as vibrant as before. So both Vivek and Vadivel get my vote.

i'm not sure if this is in the same context but i've seen this movie where he wants to help a servant boy get educated. i forgot which movie but the dialogue goes somewhat like this;

Vivek: ...what would you want to learn if you were given a chance to go to school?
Boy: Law!
Vivek: Ada Pavi!(an exclamation in tamil) How dare you(to the man of the house) lock this poor child in this house, forcing him to do stupid chores. He's a future lawyer! Tell me,(to the boy) what particular branch you'd like to specialize in; criminal law? corporate law? civil law?
Boy: Shakee-law! (Shakeela being a movie star infamous all over south india for her roles in many a B-Movie and softcore porno)

i'm not sure if this is in the same context but i've seen this movie where he wants to help a servant boy get educated. i forgot which movie but the dialogue goes somewhat like this;

Vivek: ...what would you want to learn if you were given a chance to go to school?
Boy: Law!

Answering your question.. Nah.. it's about certain religious practices. Like for example the lemons they hang on trucks and buses.. or challenging some Old panchayat laws or making fun of some silly temple traditions.. he does it best.

Yeah.. me too. I have no idea what Vaaranam is. But like I said, I watch the Tamil comedy channel, so that way I get to see only the jokes and not the whole movie.

Vivek was way funnier.....I always thought vadivel jokes were like....so similar every time...
he's almost always some village bum who thinks he knows alot...
