this is one heck of a scary game.

SILENT HILL Silenthill1

Konami released SH sometime in 1999 as competition for the then prevalent horror game RESIDENT EVIL(or BIOHAZARD
to some). but as gamers guided the character through thye foggy streets
of Silent Hill, they realized that Konami had done something totally
remarkable; they created a whole new genre: SURVIVAL HORROR... well,
they didn't. it was already there from ALONE IN THE DARK and other such old games but it's my
first survival horror game. they just introduced it to PlayStation...
no i deny that RE is survival horror. i blindly and strongly do Very Happy btw,
i have played Alone in the Dark(the
original DOS game) and i never got past the frikkin monsters from the
front door and hence failed miserably to even get in to the the bloddy
mansion.

SH was, in many ways, very different from RE. this is clear from the
fact that the lead character, Harry Mason, was your average Joe, in
that he can't aim well, ie, he randomly misses targets. he is no
athlete as he will start puffing and panting after running a long
distance(one feature i didn't see in games before GTA III). all this is
very unlike the RE series where the player, almost always, controls a
cop or something.

PLOT:

Harry Mason is yet to get over the untimely death of his wife(who was
very hot even for a videogame charactrer. may her soul rest in peace in
VG heaven). He only has his 8 year old daughter, Chery for his comfort.
They plan on taking a vacation and decide to go to Silent Hill(can't
they get a frikkin' clue? i mean i would never go to a place called that! for one thing, it could be too silent. i fail to see any hint of FUN VACATION in that).

they reach the outskirts of the town late at night. as Harry is driving
his jeep(red jeep), his daughter sleeps next to him in the front seat
clutching her colouring book(which he had given her for her 5th(?)
birthday). they see a hot mamma lady-police officer
on a police-chopper racing down the highway towards Silent Hill, but
Harry doesn't pause to check out het hot body. no, Harry's a gentleman.
after some more boring driving, he notices the foxy cop's chopper down
on the side of the road but with no trace of her. now he's confused.
where is she? but no time to think, somebody just tried to cross the
road. Harry tries to pull the car tot he side to avoit running over the
person and AHHHH!!!!!.... falls down a gorge or something(nothing
serious, he loses conscience 'sall). when he wakes up in his totalled
jeep, Cheryl's missing. he gets out of the car to find that he's
already in Silent Hill.

it's snowing in the wrong time of the year and there's a pretty thick
fog up over the streets which is pretty scary. since he hasn't seen any
scary movies, he doesn't take a hint and gets the hell out of there,
no, he ventures into the deserted town to find his daughter. and it's
your job to see to it that the father and daughter are reunited...
which is not that easy considering this is one of the scariest games
EVAR!

Pros:

the game has excellent graphics(pixillated but still pretty good for that time) and awesome cutscenes.

it delivers a very good scare throughout the game. even walking throught the deserted streets is a pretty scary experience.

very good characters.

multiple endings and hence high replay value.

i use the PSone rip by SilentScape Studios and for one thing, it loads
pretty fast. the fact that it even works in my PC is a MIRACLE! (FYI; i
own a typewriter not a computer. it's 8 frikkin years old and has never
seen an upgrade. yeah, i was pretty shocked too when i heard it for the
first time)

Cons:

critics have expressed their displeasure of the bad voice-acting
throught the game and im yet to understand what they even meant by
that. it seems ok to me. average, but nothing more than that.

the baddies are scary in the begining but get repetitive and hence become boring with time.

it was released for the PSone and it has yet to be released for the PC.
i got the PC-rip. want it? PM me. i'll get you the torrent.

this game has been dubbed one of the scariest games of all-time and i can understand why.

i give it a good 8/10

Multiple endings don't guarantee good replay value.

I've played many games with multiple endings (heck most of the recent games have them) and haven't given a shit to touch them after I finish. And note, they're critically acclaimed games like Fable and Bioshock, but I can't get myself to play through the whole friggin' story just for a different end.

The only scary game I played was FEAR. I played 2 levels, pissed in my pants (METAPHORICALLY!!) and was too scared to proceed. Oh, and some people claim Bioshock is scary. Its not. Some moments are, but its not comparable to FEAR.

true. all my friends who have played FEAR tell me that it's a mighty scary game. they also mentioned something about "...running the heck away" from a little girl. hm...

after completing Silent Hill(1 for the PSX), i feel very glad the game's over. things i like to add are:
-it's not very big. about 20 to 25 hours of gameplay.
-it's not a total bore, though i must say it's boring to get from one place to another ON FOOT.
-sewers were annoying. so are the dumb enemies in the sewers(called clickers or something)
-enemies go from scary to hammer/gun fodder. it's kinda fun to kill the monster dogs and teddies after some time.
-voice acting is pretty LAME. i get it now Smile

i got the GOOD+ ending and i've decided not to play the game again just because my typewriter of a computer has the game running in low graphics. truly typewriter, yah?
when i get the new laptop/PC that i was promised to in the next couple of months, maybe i'll give the other endings a try.
well, i did complete Silent Hill ages ago but i got to post something about it only now.

true but
-Silent Hill is not like that. i really wanna play the game all over again. only thing stopping me is my PC and maybe the workload from my college.
-Chrono Trigger was a brilliant 10/10 game that i played 7 times over and over to get the different endings.
-Guilty Gear X2 Reload: The Midnight Carnival. Highly recommendable to anybody who loves Street Fighter. I played every character at least twice to get the different endings. yet another 10/10 game in my list
-StarCraft and BroodWars Expansion Pack: i just played it from start to finish for like 4 times or something just for the heck of it. a definite 10/10 game and the BEST RTS i've ever played,... beating AOE:2 by fractions of a point.

FINAL SCORE:

Silent Hill = 7.9/10

I'm afraid there is none. The game was only released for the PSone or the PSX as it more fondly called. But there is an "unofficial" PC port made by SilentScape. Want the torrent? PM me.
