Haruki Murakami Empty Haruki Murakami

Well since this place is full of Japan geeks, it will be a crime not to have a Murakami thread here.

So who is Haruki Murakami? (shame on you if you're asking this question)

The most well-known Japanese author at the moment, who has created quite a stir internationally. "The Guardian" recently hailed him as one of the world's greatest living novelists.

So what does he write on?
Most of his works are based on magic realism, slice of life, characterized by themes such as depression, loneliness, tragedy.

I know it doesn't sound too encouraging. But his writing is...beautiful. I have no other word for it. Without even knowing how or when, the reader gets sucked into the heart of the story irrespective of how sad it gets.
I have only read Norwegian Wood and Sputnik Sweetheart and intend to devour all his works. (hopefully)

So who else is a fan? Fess up now.

Hmm...
Never really heard of him. Then again my literary tastes have been somewhat restricted to fantasy and science fiction of late.
Could you suggest a few of his works?

Wow I'm posting in here after like 6 months.
@Arrow:- I'm sure by now you may have heard of him given all the hype and hoopla created by the western media this year regarding the possible Nobel awardees in the Literature category. Needless to say he didn't win but he has been touted to win the Nobel for the past 10 years and would surely win it one day.
As one of his most devoted fans, I believe in that.
The most recent Murakami I read is The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle which is usually referred to as his masterpiece. It is sort of a semi mystery-thriller and has portions of Japan's occupation of Manchuria during World War II as a backdrop. You may like it. Also I suggest Kafka on The Shore and Dance Dance Dance!
