The Last House On The Left(2009)
The Last House On The Left, an American remake of a 1972 horror film of the same name is one of the most gruesome, excruciatingly sadistic, brutal and disturbing movie I have ever seen. You might call it a torture porn, I wouldn't agree more. But nevertheless, this is something worth watching just get a glimpse of the barbarian in humans.
Plot(courtesy imdb):
After kidnapping and brutally assaulting two young women, a gang led by
a prison escapee unknowingly finds refuge at a vacation home belonging
the parents of one of the victims -- a mother and father who devise an
increasingly gruesome series of revenge tactics.
They do not devise it as such, but its more of an impulsive way of killing that goes on mostly.
There are two types of movies that are the most difficult to make, the ones that show human extremities- simplicity or perverse nature. In both, there is a strong chance that you end up portraying the opposite of what intended. Simplicity can dangle in the lame zone and viciousness in the offensive zone. That's why extreme care has to be taken while shooting them. And so the credit totally goes to the director Dennis Iliadis for the treatment meted out with this flick. The plot is edgy and pace focuses more on detailing, both of which have been finely consummated. Each and every actor have played their part to perfection.
Two things that stand out in the movie- the part before the impending rape scene and the last one of the climax. The tension before the former is so intense, you feel like stifling whatever you find in your hands. about the latter, its such an unexpected gore, you can't clearly think for a while. A fine accomplishment to be noted is the way the rape is shot. There's no chance of arousal unless one is perverted to the core, which as the director himself agrees was one of the momentous challenges he faced.
Go for it but before you do, remember to swap your heart with a rock for 2 hours. There's a stout chance this one might seriously distress you.
