Mere words cannot hope to do justice to this movie... and I am too fixated on Kanedas bike to take pictures of anything else.

Theres the photo album....

Akira (アキラ?) is a 1988 anime film co-written and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo based on his hit manga. The film is set in a futuristic and post-war city, Neo-Tokyo, in 2019. While most of the character designs and basic settings were adapted from the original 2,182-page manga epic, the restructured plot of the movie differs considerably from the print version, pruning much of the last half of the manga.

Plot summary

In 1988, Tokyo is destroyed by an apparent nuclear explosion that leads to the start of World War III. Thirty-one years later, Neo-Tokyo, a new megalopolis built on an artificial island in Tokyo Bay, is gripped by political strife, anti-government terrorism, and gang violence. Shotaro Kaneda leads his motorcycle gang, the Capsules, which find themselves in a gang war with another group called the Clowns. As Kaneda and his best friend, Tetsuo, battle a pair of Clowns on a highway, the latter almost runs into a child with wizened features and is injured when his bike suddenly explodes. Tetsuo and the child, Takashi, are taken away by armed soldiers. Kaneda and his gang are taken in for questioning, where Kaneda unsuccessfully flirts with a young woman named Kei, a member of the terrorist Resistance. Kaneda, Kei, and the remaining Capsules are later released.

After having gone through a few discussion threads in various anime forums I guess it's safe to conclude that most people absolutely love this movie.
Guess I'll have to watch it and judge for myself.
What a bike really....could give the Batmobile a run for it's money though I'm not digging the violent shade of red much.

P.S:Woah is that your album on PB?...so many DVDs.. *ogle*

That is an old shot... my collection has grown much larger since then... but if you want something to ogle at. Take a gander at Ai chans collection (if he ever posts a picture of it.)

I am not sure how well this movie will go over with women. But it really is a cult classic.

Akira....I saw it only recently but the reaction was instant. THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE BEST ANIMATED FILM EVER CREATED!!! for the sheer grandness of the animation rather than anything else. And man!! this was created in 1988!!! That was before they started using computers in animation industry..so its all hand drawn!!!

Completely awed....although a bit too violent, the experience can only be described as magical..

The Manga was quite engaging, until volume three when things start feeling a bit drawn out. I stopped reading at that point, but I've been meaning to go back to it sometime.

I'm downloading the movie now, after hearing a whole lot about how amazing it is.

@BloodAl- You didn't get the story? I thought it was pretty deep. You just have to read between the lines a little bit.

@arrow: they're not gonna learn...simple.

Oh, I'm sorry about the little misunderstanding..I DID get the story, the whole of it, actually. And I liked it very much. But since I only saw the movie, I felt that the twists n turns were all a bit abrupt..they should have slowed down. That's what I felt.
