This guy is my all is my favourite author. I can't remember why I like him or which of his books I'd read first. But I love this guy. Please, I implore you all to overlook my ignorance and my knowledge of JACK when it comes to other authors but from what I've read, he's one sick FvCK!

This guy can write so frikkin well about pain, suffering, madness and death so much so that when you're reading it you feel it. The guy is one twisted piece of sh!t and I respect him for that. Demented? Far from it. In fact, that would be an understatement. He's more of insane... by choice! (just like me Smile )

All his works that I've read till date have themes of horror and death. There's this feeling you get when you read his books that everyone in it is wearing black. There's this gloomy feeling all the time and it's rooms are never brightly lit.
Somehow, contrary to popular opinion that his theme is very often GOTHIC,... I found no similarities with his work and the goth sub-culture if that is what they meant by that. Sure he writes about death but not like he enjoys it. It's pains..... and it hurts but he likes hurt. Pain is good. That's not how goths work. They wear black and bite each others' necks and pretend to be vampires, though I must say Goth Chicks are very hot. I can't actually comment about this, but Poe is IMHO, NOT A GOTH! I'd like a hot goth for a girlfriend.

I remember reading Raven and this other story( about a stupid horse and burning houses. i forgot the name Sad it was from back when I used to take books from the school library ie, ancient history) and that Poe finds horror in the silliest of things. A crow, ok? A frikkin horse! These are not even supposed to be scary,.... unless of course it's written by Edgar Allan Poe. Poe is brilliant in that he expresses the emotions and thoughts of his characters and the insanity in their mind (see also Telltale Heart) in such a way that you start imagining yourself in the same state(empathize, right?). What? Just me? COME ON!

It had been along time since I'd read one of his books but recently I've found the best way to get classics into your head: AUDIO BOOKS. If you read an audiobook of a present day book,.... say, Twilight, I'm sure you might not get the feel of the book right. But it works perfectly well with classics.... provided the reader is good.
So here I am, catching up to Poe and his works, one short-story a day. If you like death related themes, go for Poe. If you don't stay at home,.... and go for Poe.

My favorite author as well.
The Raven is my favorite poem from his collection. Smile

And from his stories, it would be:
The Purloined Letter, The Black Cat, The Masque of the Red Death, The Cask of Amontillado, The Pit and the Pendulum and The Tell-Tale Heart.
