An anime forum without a GB thread...?? Sacrilege!!! Death to the heretics I say...

In all seriousness.... this is one of the most underrated anime of all time I think.... not too many people seem to know about it outside of the guys who have seen it on Animax.... What I mean is that... some of the 'gora' anime fans I have met here had never heard of it.... which I thought was ridiculous... apparently the DVD's which have been released by ADV have started racking up good sales though.... so I still have hope... in any case...

Series follows the exploits of Ban Mido and Ginji Amano... two individuals with superhuman powers (Ban = Evil eye and Snake bite, Ginji = Thunder Emperor) .... These guys have formed a recovery service called the Get Backers where they recover items for their clients... anything from a videogame to a nuclear warhead... if you lost it... they will get it back... a huge cast of secondary characters.... many with superpowers and some without... make their way into the storyline as the pasts of Ban and Ginji start to some into focus... awesome super-villains like Jackal and Fudou made the day for me... but Hevns Hotness and Natsumi Cutness factor also helped...

The one in which the poor man's daughter is the gangsters girlfriend? That one. Kinda touched me. *sob*

But then i couldnt get to see the full thing cuz i had exams. And then i lost touch with it. That is the next anime on my list to download.

Get Backers!!!

this could easily be the series that got me hooked on to anime... ie along with Rurouni Kenshi and Ghost in the Shell.
While Kenshi showed me that anime had class and was a bit stereotype back in '96. it also showed me that there was also good story telling involved.
Ghost in the shell introduced me to a new genre of series that i've hadn't seen even in live action. the kind that leaves you thinking "what the heck just happened here...?" after each episode.
But it was GET BACKERS that showed me that anime has swearing, excellent comedy, superpowers and ever more comedy than what your average live action tv series can deliver. but most importantly, GB thought me that in anime, the chicks are not halted by the constraints of plastic surgery and sillicone implants to have gigantic byoobles unlike in real life. HEVN heaven.

it was like love at first sight. a dumbass blondguy with the power to genereate electicity and a badass black-magic dude with EVIL EYE and then there is Jackal. oh Dr. Jackal. the guy is a frikkin madman and i like that.

what i like about GB is that if the scene is a bloody fight sequence, it's damn serious. VERY SERIOUS but if it's funny, then it's makes-you-go-bananas funny.

shounen at it's best. and i liked the opening theme for the second half of the original of the series.

Just for the record... the Animax dub for this series which aired in India is by far the best... blows the R1 dub clean out the water... even the Jap voiceovers were not that great...

BTW if you thought the series was good... check out the manga.... EVERYTHING X 100!! Ecchiness, Funniness... the works...

The anime I grew up on....it'll always be my favorite!!! Got me addicted to anime, made Ban Mido my love and then devoted me to pairing him up with Natsumi *eyes light up* So kawaii!!!!!!!1

Miss it a lot though...wish they would sell the Animax version DVD's...I'd buy all of them then!

I already have the R1 DVD's but I would have paid a lot more for the Animax versions....

Me too... btw its rather ignominious that GetBackers didn't quite sell in US. The last time I checked on rightstuf, they had the each season of GetBackers selling at $15 (ie, $30 for whole series)btw, Kyo you have a PM waiting ... 

Youre kidding me... even on sale I had paid more than that... not too much more... but still.... This sucks...

Its a nice anime..... Actually there are 49 episodes in whole.......Ofcourse its not the entire edition.
The story in the Anime actually deviates from the manga somewhere around the 35th episode......
And in the Anime they show only that Ban Mido and Ginji solving cases and going upto the 1st level in the tower......They dont at all show the most interesting part of who xactly are Ban Mido and Ginji.......
This is the only reason y I read the whole Manga....... and believe me its simply amazing.......
U will get 2 knw every secrect of each and evry charecter of the Get BAckers

I still preferred the anime. I did try reading the manga, but the art let me down real bad at first. When I did get beyond the art and onto the story...I still preferred the anime with all its filler episodes. The manga just makes me hate Get Backers...(No offense to those who like it, it's just my opinion). And I don't want to hate it, it's the only thing that cheered me up in my suicidal days. That's why, I'm better off with just watching the anime! ^^

All Epis are out on R1 DVD. The dubs suck though. Animax dubs are the best. Far better then even the Japanese audio IMO.

27 Manga volumes have been released by Tokyopop... and I am eagerly awaiting the rest...

Scanslations restarted about a month or two ago and are moving at a brisk clip. They might overtake the official Tokyopop releases soon.

Lord I hope so... but I doubt it. Interest in the series is limited to very few fans. Most were forced to watch the crappy R1 Dubs which really screwed things up. Japanese release did not really get much interest either (for whatever reason) I still think Dr. Jackal is by far the coolest anime villain ever to "walk-the-screen" as it were....

akabane is one of the best anti-hero's, not exactly a villain

Meh.... my black and white perception of the world hurts me at times when such subtleties need to be observed....
