Well, I don't have a high opinion of the manga. It has a dull story with no scope of growth. Just one guy desiring the girl he can never get for the obvious fact that he is a loser. What irritates me is that THIS LOSER is the main character. Or at least 33.33% of the main character. In all, there are, in my opinion, THREE main characers in this manga. The initial few volumes just want to emphasize the monstrosity of the breasts of the female character.

Again, in my opinion, not something worth reading if you are a manga fan. If you want some time-pass reading to do, then its worth a try.

A pair of high school students, Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, are seemingly run over by a subway train, after saving the life of a homeless drunk who had fallen onto the tracks. Following their untimely deaths, Kurono and Kato find themselves transported—alive and well—along with a number of people who have also just died, to the interior of an unfurnished Tokyo condominium from which the Tokyo Tower may be seen—and none of them are able to leave. At one end of the room is a featureless black sphere known as "Gantz". By way of green text that appears on the surface of the sphere, Gantz informs those present that their lives have ended. The following words appear on the black sphere's surface: "Your lives have ended. What you do with your new lives is entirely up to me. That's the theory, anyway."

Without explaining anything to them, the Gantz sphere opens up to reveal a bald man on life support in the center, and three racks that offer various items for them to use. Information on the Gantz Targets appear on the surface of the sphere, shortly before the Gantz Team are transported to the location of the mission, where they are expected to kill aliens. Gantz gives out individual suits for each person there, giving them great strength, speed, jumping ability, and protection from harm. Additional weapons and items are gained from the hundred point menu.

The hunters cannot return from their mission until all enemies have been killed, or the time limit has run out. If the mission is successful, each individual is awarded points for the aliens they have killed. They are then allowed to leave, and live their lives as they see fit until Gantz summons them back again for the next mission. The only way to stop having to participate in the missions is to earn one hundred points, and choose the option to be freed. While in the anime version, there are four targets, including a "Kurono alien", at present, there have been nine different types of alien targets in the manga.

Fell out of touch with this series a while ago... much like Tenjo Tenge and Samurai Deeper Kyo... I read much faster than the releases and then when I started looking for other stuff... I just kept going... couldnt remember where I left off... counting this... those are the three series I need to re-read... SDK being a personal fave... just cause of the characters... I could almost care less for the story... but I just cant bear not knowing what happens to Kyo (no relation to the anime ending... manga goes off on a different tangent altogether)... Gantz was just getting to the point where it was starting to bore me... come to think of it there are other series I need to re-read as well... Naruto and Hitman Reborn... Tenjo Tenge on the other hand had entered into some kinda ultra-flashback mode all the way back to the feudal era... in any case... back to Gantz.... the premise was good... but I think they might have stretched it too far... will have to read what I have missed before I pass judgment... but as I said... I had been getting bored...

Wow Ace. You just saved me the trouble of posting something huge and boring and full of naked women.

So true. And if you don't like violence or nudity or both or maybe one more than the other,... I suggest you quit reading GANTS and go for AH! MY GODDESS.

Kyo wrote:Fell out of touch with this series a while ago... I read much faster than the releases and then when I started looking for other stuff... I just kept going...
Again!? My feelings exactly!
Kinda the reason why I hate ongoing series.

For me, GANTZ was .....ordinary people in extraordinary godamn-freaky-ass-outta-this-world situations.
It also had Crazy aliens, mindless violence, naked women, perverts, total idiots having wonderful sex with hot chicks.
In short, this is something more dangerous than a dirty magazine in the hands of a minor. Kids, stay the heck away. (BTW, I was 16 or 17 when I read this. Sue me)

Most people are like "There's a lot of sex and nudity in Gantz!" True. And most of the time, it's very much unnecessary.
....but let's think now shall we?
Kei Kurono is your average teenager. WRONG! He's a DICK! He cares less than shit about people and he whacks off to porno mags.
So, lets put a hormonal douchebag like him in the same room with that amazingly proportioned Lara Croft lady(seriously,... why does she look like Angelina Jolie?). You think they'd just shake hands and have a healthy relationship? THINK AGAIN! It would have been exactly the same as that in the manga.... provided the Lara Croft lady is a slut.... which she is.

So, some of the crazy things in Gantz does make sense,..... except maybe the huge ass sword they get some time around Vol. 6 or Vol. 11. I still don't get the technology behind that sword and the time-delay-explosion guns.

I've finished GANTZ PHASE 1 and I'm yet to start PHASE 2. It's been like that for more than a year now... I think.
It's that Gantz seems very dull and boring now and I don't really feel like going back to it. But it's kinda enjoyable if you're a guy and you want a good time and don't care about the story.

Lolz... I thought he becomes all noble and shit towards the later part of the series..... guess not.... whatever.... this was a violence and nudity overkill when it began... and things only seem to have gotten... worse... or better.... depending on your preferences.... I guess I mignt not bother with picking it back up... I did restart Tenjo Tenge though.... will keep going with that...

Please refrain from mentioning a series like Ah My Goddess and Gantz in the same sentence.... it made me physically ill to see that.... Ah My Goddess is just so many levels better than Gantz.... clean humor... moral content... the familiar romance formula.... but some really cool and just plain funny characters....

Well, he does and that was kinda like the... I dunno, the only good thing that Ganz ever did to anyone ie, help Kurono become a better guy.

Uh,... I was just suggesting that if you are not into the violence-nudity thing, probably you should go read something better like AH! MY GODDESS.

LOL
