I've been having this series in my possession for many a month now but never had the
time to watch it. But I did,... yesterday. I spent the whole night
watching this thing and I finished it in one go. Episode 1 to 13 and
the OVA from 11 PM to 6 AM. And I must say, this is pretty good. At
first, I thought it was a sleezy romace-shoujo-harem title but the
first 15 minutes of mindless blood and gore on the screen changed that.
I was really taken by surprise with the amount of nudity and violence
they had in the first episode. So, you have been officially warned
warned;

!THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED!

The show has explicit scences of nudity, child nudity, minors being
sexually abused, graphic violence, gore, blood, animal torture, and
many such things that may cause serious nausea, mental trauma and brain
damage to your average Shoujo Lover who was attracted by all the kwaii
and pink hair. This is not for you.
If you are uncomfortable with scenes of brutal violence and the SUPER
CUTENESS of Nana-chan, I suggest you turn around and proceed to the
rammen-stand where a sweaty bald guy has crappy street-food to offer
for a hefty price of 500 yen (ie $5 american and Rs.250 indian).
Personally I preffer Panipuri. Cheap, no?

Having said that, I shall give a short intro to the series for those interested. I'll try my best to avoid spoilers.

The story tells us of the next step in human evolution;
Diclonius(meaning "double sprout"). They are like humans but with the
exception that they have two horn-like protuberations
on thier heads... and two paris of invisible-psycho-kenetic arms known
as vectors. Pretty normal, eh? Mankind is oblivious to thier existence
but with the exception of a Japanese research facility where they
conductexperiments on them.
The series begins with a diclonius test subject escaping a reserach
facility, killing everyone in sight. Cool. But she is hit on the head
with an .50 BMG anti-tank round (and survives... Shocked
) and falls into the sea. Later she is discovered by this guy called
Kohta and his cousin Yuka, washed up on the beach, naked and suffering
from amnesia. How convenient. They decide to take in the mysterious
girl with them in a HUGE house they rented. The girl(diclonius) seems
to have lost her memory(thanks to the anti-tank round) so much so that
she can't even speak proper. All she says is "nyu" and they name her
Nyu. Despite seeing horns on her head they take her in and live
together and that's when strange things happen. Strange people keep
showing up, weird things happen and somehow its all related with the
horned girl.

You gotta see the show for the rest. Despite my preconcieved ideas
about it, it's good. It has excellent characters, a killer opeing theme
and brilliant portrayal of human emotions. Though I must complain that
things get a little KWAII in the middle (especially with the crappy
ending theme. gets in your head. annoying)

I really enjoyed watching this show so much so that now I know the song
"Lilium" by heart! It's got that gregorian voices effect with the Male
Version of the song played during the show.

***POSSIBLE SPOILER***
The final scene with Director Kurama and Mariko really moved me. Sad
These father-child anime scenes always get me. Don't know why.
Makes me wanna have a family and settle down in the country side with lots of trees.
********************

Great show. I recomend it to anyone who hasn't seen it already.

I give it a solid 8.3 upon 10.

oh and BTW, the OVA can be called EPISODE 10.5 as its events bridge
those from Episodes 10 and 11 also showing the history of Director
Kurama and also first encounter between Lucy(Nyu's real name) and
Director Kurama.

Nothing to write home about IMO... 1st ep was a bit of a shocker I will admit... but it got old fast... all the same... I will say that the animation was top notch... storyline wasnt too bad... ending was a bit vague which I always dislike... I usually prefer to have all ends tied up in a neat little bow... no room for ambiguity... (Thats not to say that I have to have it that way... but it would have been nice for this series...)... 6.8/10. A better series in a similar(ish) vein is Speed Grapher...

This really isn't my kind of show I guess. An overdose of violence and nudity have a tendency to make me throw up.Same reason why I don't like Quentin Tarantino.

WHAT??? How can someone NOT love Tarantino. i'm probably his biggest fan alive. Reservoir Dogs did the trick for me. And then came Pulp Fiction. After that, there was not turning back! I can't wait for Inglorious Basterds to come out in DVD.

And how come everyone I met here tell me that this anime was crap? Really, is my taste that bad? Oh come on!
The only character I actually really liked after the show was Director Kurama.
Spoiler:
And it really moved me when he and his daughter dies in the end. That's the only place I ever felt moved in the ENTIRE run of the show.

And I also liked the soundtracks. Especially the song Lilium[Male Version]. I like foreign language songs that I don't really understand.

Lol I'm not saying this anime is crap. After all it got good reviews from a lot of places. But it's just not the kind of thing I will like.
Ditto for Tarantino. That blood-spattered car in Pulp Fiction and Travolta wiping it all away from the windows....ewww.I don't dig violence much.

LILIUM (the opening theme)

In Latin

Os iusti meditabitur sapientiam,
Et lingua eius loquetur indicium.

Beatus vir qui suffert tentationem,
Quoniqm cum probates fuerit accipient coronam vitae.

Kyrie, fons bonitatis.
Kyrie, ignis divine, eleison.

O quam sancta, quam serena,
Quam benigma, quam amoena esse Virgo creditur.
O quam sancta, quam serena,
Quam benigma, quam amoena,
O castitatis lilium.

[Instrumental]

Kyrie, fons bonitatis.
Kyrie, ignis divine, eleison.

O quam sancta, quam serena,
Quam benigma, quam amoena,
O castitatis lilium.

English Translation

The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom
And his language shall be spoken in judgment
Blessed is he who suffers temptation
Since he, with approval, shall receive the crown of life
Lord, fire divine, have mercy
Oh how holy
How serene
How kind
How pleasant
Oh, lily of chastity!
Lord, fire by divine, have mercy
Oh how sacred
Oh, How serene
How benevolent
How lovely
Oh! Lily of chastity

I love this song!
It's very,.... sad. But the male version (SAINT VERSION) is kinda creepy. I like the Saint version better.
BTW, I know the lyrics by heart. Perfect for bathroom singing.
I'm sorry I couldn't post a reply any sooner.

And why is everyone calling it a very overrated anime? IMHO, it's pretty underrated.
